ViON Announces New Solutions in Key Areas as Part of Strategic Shift to Solutions Delivery

Herndon, VA. – April 16, 2013 – ViON Corporation, which since 1980 has provided enterprise-level servers and storage to government data centers, today announced new solutions in two key areas: data protection and server and storage virtualization. The announcement is part of ViON’s shift to a solutions-based approach to its business, a move that will add value for customers by enabling them to procure complete systems-and-services solutions from a vendor with extensive expertise and long experience in data center systems.

“This shift to solutions is ViON’s response to customers who increasingly want to focus on their core business rather than on dealing with specialized aspects of IT,” said Tom Frana, President and CEO of ViON. “We’ll begin by addressing two areas where we know customers are eager for solutions supported by advanced services, and then we’ll expand from there into other areas where we’ve determined customers will benefit from a solutions-driven approach.”

ViON chose data protection as one of its two solution areas in recognition of the growing amount of critical data that today’s companies must maintain and protect. ViON will address this area by rolling out solutions built around tape, virtual tape libraries (VTL) and deduplication products from Quantum.

“Quantum offers DXi deduplication appliances with best-in-class backup performance and scalability and industry-leading Scalar tape libraries for long-term data retention,” said Ted Stinson, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales, at Quantum. “ViON is a long-standing leader in meeting customers’ storage needs, and we look forward to partnering with them to extend the benefits of our offerings more broadly in the market.”

Server and storage virtualization is another area that has taken on critical importance in the wake of unprecedented data growth and the need to find cost-effective ways to store, manage and share more data than ever. In this area, ViON will provide converged solutions that incorporate the IBM PureFlex integrated infrastructure for VMware virtualization as well as solutions that incorporate the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) for VMware virtualized environments.

“IBM’s PureFlex offering is a perfect complement to our long and productive relationship with ViON in the federal marketplace, adding to ViON’s reputation for superior support and reliability,” said Todd Morris, Director, Partner Solutions and Capture Management, Federal IMT, IBM. “We look forward to working closely with them in serving our federal clients.”

“We are pleased to be working with a company that has both the expertise and experience to deliver our Hitachi Unified Compute Platform Pro and Select solutions,” said Ravi Chalaka, VP of Solutions Marketing at Hitachi Data Systems. “ViON has fully evaluated these UCP converged infrastructure offerings and has trained their team to deliver our innovative solutions that accelerate time to production and automate infrastructure orchestration.”

ViON will support the new solutions with two categories of advanced services. Ready-for-Use services ensure that systems are fully operational upon delivery and require no additional configuration or fine-tuning by the customer. Value-added services provide the expertise of experienced solution delivery consultants to assist in fully deploying complex solutions.
