ViON HyperStor

ViON presents the ViON HyperStor, the fastest storage on the planet.  The complete family of HyperStor RAM-based storage devices represents the fastest Fibre Channel or InfiniBand attached storage systems available today.  HyperStor is a natural addition to ViON’s complete line of enterprise storage systems; it ranges from PCIe solutions through high density eFlash solutions to pure DRAM systems – providing 10TB of RAM disk in only 3U.  These systems are compatible with virtually every computer system manufactured today, providing the highest levels of IOPS and bandwidth, while reducing environmental impact.

The HyperStor family is the only RAM-based storage system that covers all three tiers of performance and size.  These three tiers include internal PCIe adapters with eFlash (enterprise class Flash with onboard CPU and RAM caching) drives, external DRAM systems and external eFlash/DRAM hybrids provide a solution for even the most challenging user requirements.  The models 100 and 200 family members provide simple, board level storage in capacities of 225 and 450 GB per board.  Of course, multiple boards can be installed in a single server.  Performance in such configurations scales in a nearly linear fashion.  A single server (for example an HP DL 980) could easily provide as many as 600,000 IOPS and bandwidth exceeding 3.5 GB per second from internal storage!  The 2nd tier systems, the model 4000 and its big brother, the 4400, represent the absolute pinnacle of system performance using a purely DRAM architecture.  Using a rack of these systems, an individual server, if it could keep up, could achieve rates of nearly 9,000,000 IOPS and a bandwidth exceeding 55 GB per second with an average response time of .015 milliseconds.

The most dense HyperStor systems are the 6000 series – 6200 and 6300.  These represent our third tier.  Building an array of these systems allows more than 130 TB of eFlash storage in a single industry standard 19 inch rack.  One rack of these eFlash units can provide 13,000,000 IOPS and bandwidth of more than 130 GB per second with an average response time of .080 milliseconds (writes) and .250 milliseconds (reads).

Since HyperStor employs only standard protocols on our Fibre Channel and InfiniBand storage network interfaces, your investment is future proofed.  As your servers change, improving over time, all you need to do is plug your HyperStor into each new system; compatibility is assured.

HyperStor is also fully compatible with the Hitachi High-Performance NAS (HNAS) Platform powered by BlueArc.  HNAS is our award winning NAS system and provides the highest speed NAS system available today.

Since HyperStor is based on solid-state, rather than spinning storage media, it provides both better performance and energy efficiency.  The highly efficient design of the HyperStor delivers the highest performance and capacity combined with the lowest power consumption and lower cooling requirements.  Special configurations support on-ship and on-airframe installations.

The HyperStor architecture includes a rack based design that accepts power from the top or the bottom of the rack, allowing for flexible configurations.  Cooling air moves from front to back, providing for hot and cold aisles within the data center.  A single 5 TB HyperStor draws less than 300 watts (nominal), while providing more than 3 GB per second of throughput.  If a system does not consume power, then it does not generate heat; therefore, it does not need to be cooled.  Less power and cooling equals less money spent.
