FalconStor Virtual Tape Library (VTL) with Deduplication

ViON presents the Hitachi-FalconStor Virtual Tape Library (VTL) appliance, a solution that combines enterprise-class storage functionality, and scalability, with high performance deduplication into a fully integrated product. This unique solution leverages the high performance capabilities of the Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) into a market-leading VTL for organizations of all sizes. Easy installation combined with integration with existing backup software eliminates ‘rip and replace’ complications commonly found in other offerings. Hitachi-FalconStor VTL provides fast backup speeds, up to 5.8 TB per hour, eliminating the backup window. Scalable deduplication, with up to 8 appliances, ensures both rapid recovery and efficient disk capacity utilization. Combined with high speed protocols, 8Gb Fibre Channel and 10Gb Ethernet, customers can expect deduplication rates up to 9.7 TB per hour. The resulting value to customers is: cost-effective data protection and DR, while minimizing associated tape complexities, costs and logistics.

Hitachi-FalconStor VTL offers a series of preconfigured turnkey storage appliances that help organizations overcome the challenges associated with data recovery and traditional tape backup. The FalconStor VTL appliance on Hitachi storage is a non-disruptive disk-based solution, emulating over 50 tape libraries and 30 tape-drive formats, greatly simplifying deployment and installation. Hitachi-FalconStor VTL is also fully integrated with Symantec OST (OpenStorage), providing transparent data replication and catalog consistency.

Hitachi-FalconStor VTL offers flexible deduplication methods, Inline, post-process or concurrent, allowing deployments appropriate to individual customer environments, equipment and business needs.

Providing enterprise-level functionality, Hitachi-FalconStor VTL is available as a flexible set of turnkey appliances using Hitachi HUS high-performance storage controllers. These preconfigured appliances offer all required switches, KVM, cables and management servers. Available storage scales from 19TB to 39TB of physical, RAID protected, usable capacity corresponding to between 380TB and 780TB of logical repository, based on an average 20:1 deduplication ratio. Storage can easily and non-disruptively scale by adding field expansion storage shelves. Customer configurations are available, scaling from 1TB of usable storage, expandable to 68TB.
