Xsigo
ViON presents Xsigo's I/O Director, a hardware and software solution that streamlines server I/O management. Instead of deploying multiple I/O cards and cables to every server, Xsigo lets you connect servers with a single cable and then create virtual I/O resources instantaneously. The result is 100x faster server management, 70% fewer cables and cards and up to 50% less capital costs.
The Xsigo I/O Director employs virtualization to let you flexibly connect servers to networks and storage. Xsigo eliminates the physical storage and networking cards found in every server and replaces them with virtual NICs and virtual HBAs that can be deployed on the fly. Applications and operating systems see these virtual resources exactly as they would see their physical counterparts. The result is an I/O architecture that is much easier to manage, far more cost effective and fully open.
Xsigo's virtual I/O resources operate exactly like traditional server I/O. The physical NICs and HBAs are replaced by virtual resources that appear to the OS and application exactly as their physical counterparts, so they require no application or OS modifications. To the network and the SAN resources, they also appear as traditional server I/O, so they can be easily discovered and managed. But unlike traditional I/O, they can be deployed at any time, in seconds, without a server reboot.
Xsigo's I/O Director enables IT shops and Cloud Computing service providers to build homogeneous or heterogeneous server fabrics consisting of any type of server, running any operating system or any hypervisor. Each server can connect to any storage or network infrastructure required by the application. The I/O Director enables dynamic provisioning and re-provisioning of I/O to any server at any time, which allows I/O configurations to be applied at the time of application instantiation, rather than reconfiguring servers with specific limitations. It also enables easy moves, adds and changes to I/O configurations at any time, with no downtime, no re-cabling, no hardware changes and no re-mapping of the LAN or SAN. A pod architecture based on the Xsigo solution requires fewer physical cables and takes less time to physically configure, which enables rapid deployment of pre-designed hardware solutions.
