The McDATA Corporation, founded in 1982, is a global leader in open-storage networking solutions, providing high-performance enterprise directors and Storage Area Networks (SANs).
Additionally, McDATA manufactures and markets a family of high-performance switching solutions—including Fibre Channel switches—for Open Systems environments, and ESCON switches for IBM mainframe type data centers.
McDATA was the first large enterprise switch (director) company. For years, it was the only good solution supporting the largest SANs, a fact that has strengthened our partnership with this excellent organization. In addition, McDATA has been a leader in connectivity solutions in the IBM enterprise 390 space, where ESCON and FICON are prevalent.
In 1998, ViON started our successful relationship with McDATA as large requirements for centralizing storage were presented by our customers and prospects. McDATA developed the first large storage switches for storage area networking (SAN). Some of ViON’s largest accounts have McDATA switches IBMedded in the fabric of their storage layer.
In the future, SAN will dominate the storage layer as networks replace direct attached. McDATA continues to provide robust, enterprise rich solutions for ViON.
