| 1979 |
ViON Corporation (ViON) began as the Federal Systems Division of ITEL Corporation (ITEL). In 1979, ITEL was acquired by National Semiconductor Corporation. At the same time in 1979, P. David Pappert and William Topercer of ITEL’s Federal Division begin to form ViON Corporation as an independent, privately held, small business. |
| 1980 |
ViON is incorporated as an independent, closely held, small business to serve the federal marketplace. ViON begins as a systems integrator specializing in medium- and large-scale systems for IBM-compatible mainframe processors and peripheral equipment. |
| 1989 |
Until 1989, the principal products ViON marketed were Hitachi products under the name of National Advanced Systems (NAS). In 1989, Hitachi, Ltd. acquired NAS from National Semiconductor and renamed the company Hitachi Data Systems. Originally set up as a joint venture between Hitachi, Ltd. and Electronic Data Systems Corporation, Hitachi Data Systems subsequently became a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. ViON entered into exclusive agreements with Hitachi Data Systems to market Hitachi's products. Notwithstanding ViON's formal marketing/distributorship agreement with Hitachi Data Systems and others, ViON is an independent corporation and does not act as an agent or legal representative of anyone.

| 1999 |
For many years, FCS (Federal Computer Services) provided servicing for Hitachi products. When FCS dissolved in 1999, ViON had a need for a service organization. ViON hired personnel from FCS and became a Hitachi authorized service provider. This group provides first and second call maintenance, as well as break/fix and professional services on all Hitachi Data Systems storage products and additional products supported by Hitachi such as Brocade, McData, Emulex, JNI and others. The maintenance force primarily supports ViON federal accounts, as well as many secured facilities.

| 1999 |
As a natural outgrowth of ViON’s federal business culture, a sales force was added to support public sector business in state and local governments of the United States, as well as commercial business. ViON was able to leverage its experience in government contracts, proposals, pricing and understanding of particular application needs to be successful. |
| 2000 |
From 1979 through 1999, the primary emphasis was the sale of IBM-compatible mainframe products. In 2000, Hitachi Data Systems ceased development of the mainframe computers and successfully turned its attention to large capacity storage products. ViON followed this lead and now offers Advanced Storage Solutions to our customers. |
