EMC Data Domain
ViON presents EMC DataDomain for De-duplication storage systems that continue to revolutionize disk backup, archiving, and disaster recovery with high-speed, inline de-duplication. By consolidating backup and archive data on a DataDomain system, customers can reduce storage requirements by 10-30x, making disk storage cost-effective for onsite retention and high efficiency data movement for network-based replication to disaster recovery sites.
EMC DataDomain is qualified with leading enterprise backup and archiving applications—integrates easily into existing storage infrastructures, and the open framework can easily take advantage of newer applications as they arrive in the data center.
For performance considerations DataDomain pushes throughput of up to 31 TB per hour promoting the completion of more backups sooner while putting less pressure on limited backup windows.
DataDomains state-of-the-art replications sends only de-duplicated and compressed data across the network, requiring a fraction of the bandwidth, time, and cost compared to traditional replication methods.
EMC Data Domain Stream-Informed Segment Layout (SISL™) scaling architecture optimizes de-duplication throughput scalability and minimizes disk footprint by minimizing disk accesses. System throughput is CPU-centric, not "spindle bound." Inline de-duplication throughput speeds leverage the continued advancement in CPU performance. SISL technology first identifies 99 percent of duplicate, variable-length data segments in RAM, inline, before storing to disk. Then it stores related segments and fingerprints together, so large groups can be read at once. EMC Data Domain systems can use the capacity of large SATA disks for data protection and--without increasing RAM--minimize the number of disks needed to deliver high throughput.
DataDomain Global Compression combines an exceptionally efficient, high-performance, inline de-duplication technology with a local compression technique. The de-duplication technology reduces data down to its raw essentials by pooling redundant patterns within a file, across files, and even within a block, only storing unique data segments. Local compression scans the unique data sequence across a local small window of comparison like a tape drive.
Key benefits include:
- Storage reduction – Lowers dramatically the amount of storage capacity required for storing backup images-up to 10 to 30 times on average
- Scalability – Gains up to 65 PB of logical capacity in a very small footprint with Data Domain systems with petabytes (PB) of protection storage
- Network-efficient replication – Transfers only unique data segments, reducing bandwidth requirements by as much as 99 percent
